The door operator is the core to the operation of an automatic door system, and the sensor is another crucial part. Sensing technology determines the sensitivity and accuracy of an automatic door's perception of the external environment. Microwave and infrared technologies are the two most typical solutions.

1-1-microwave-sensor

Microwave sensing technology

Also known as radar, detects movement by emitting high-frequency electromagnetic waves and analyzing their reflected waves.

Working Principle: The sensor continuously transmits a low-power microwave signal into the environment. When an object (such as a person) enters the detection area, the moving object causes the frequency of the reflected microwave signal to change (the Doppler effect). The sensor detects movement and triggers the door opening signal.

Advantages: Strong penetration, able to penetrate obstacles to detect objects; Low environmental impact, more stable performance under the influence of temperature, smoke, and light; Wide detection range and high sensitivity.

Disadvantages: High penetration and sensitivity can lead to false triggering; pose a safety hazard to stationary objects.

1-2-infrared-sensor

Infrared sensing technology

Divided into active infrared and passive infrared, operates by detecting changes in infrared light.

Working Principle: Active infrared uses a transmitter and receiver to detect reflected light from objects. Passive infrared does not emit energy but works by passively detecting infrared thermal radiation emitted by people or objects.

Advantages: Accurate, only responds to moving objects with heat sources; low energy consumption.

Disadvantages: Highly sensitive to environmental factors such as temperature and light; relatively limited range.

Based on the above, the decision between microwave and infrared is not a simple choice question; it requires a comprehensive consideration of factors such as the site environment, traffic flow, and functional requirements. Regardless of the technology, CANBO will provide you with a matching solution.
